Small, light, robust: iglidur plain bearings in the trike from Azub

Profile

  • What was needed: Plain bearing in front suspension
  • Requirements: Lightweight, suitable for small installation spaces, lubrication-/maintenance-free, insensitive to dust and dirt
  • Application area: Bicycle industry
Azub Bike is a Czech company specialising in the production of recumbent bicycles. Their first top-of-the-line trike model, the TRIcon 26, won the prestigious "Trike of the Year 2015" award, thanks to first-class workmanship, strong steering and the innovative rear fork with a 157-millimetre-wide hub. All the knowledge and technical details went into the new Ti-Fly model, whose front suspension made of special aircraft titanium makes it a robust lightweight.

Problem

As light as possible, robust and elegant in workmanship and looks - these are the specifications that make Ti-FLX appealing. To achieve this, the developers opted for a front suspension made of high-strength Grade 5 titanium. To do this, they had to find suitable bearings that could easily cope with impacts, dirt and water. They should be small and light, vibration-dampening and durable. In addition, maintenance should be as low as possible.

Solution

With dry-operating plastic bearings made of iglidur G material, the perfect solution was found. Thanks to incorporated solid lubricants, the all-rounder bearings do not require any additional lubricants and are therefore maintenance-free. Dust and dirt cannot harm them. In addition, unlike metallic plain and ball bearings, they are corrosion-free and many times lighter. Their high wear resistance ensures a long service life, which can also be determined in advance online with the service life calculator.

"Above all, the bearings should be light, robust and durable. The iglidur G plain bearings used were exactly the right solution here."
